I once went to an awesome closing sale at Jumbo Video, which was located at the plaza i now reside in front of oddly, and there was a ton of big boxes and obscure titles, but I only had limited funds, so had to really pick and choose, leaving behind Lunch Meat, Sledge Hammer and this film, The Town that Dreaded Sundown. I have managed to get copies of Sledgehammer and Lunch Meat in the past few years and both were great but this always eluded me. Until recently.
The Town that Dreaded Sundown is based loosely on the unsolved Texarkana murders in 1946. It centers around the investigative team and a few victims and even has Dawn Wells-Fucking Mary Anne- in a minor roll. The killer mostly shoots his victims but is a beating death and a man is dragged through a broke glass covered car window, but really not a lot happens. There is also an odd comic relief character, Officer Spark plug as it is, that seemed inappropriate. There really wasn’t much horror to this and it falls flat quickly.
Pros: The killer costume was kind of innovative for it’s time.
Cons: Bad comic relief character and situations, little violence or gore, too boring to be bad.
